Historical profile

The first historical testimony on the Antica Fonte di Pejo highlights that as early as 1549 the mineral water of “Bagni di Pej” was talked about. But assured information spread about the Fonti di Pejo is known about in 1660. This is written on a small monograph in good court Latin entitled: "De admirando Dei dono, sive facultatibus acidularum in Valle Solis Episcopatus Tridenti repertarum". The publication gathers a series of precise testimonies on the therapeutic virtues of the Fonti di Pejo, the first writing because “the celestial gifts from God do not remain hidden”, is by Alessandro Colombo, doctor, physicist and actual Cubiculario of his Serene Highness Ferdinando Carlo Archduke of Austria”. It is said that the waters of Pejo “stimulate the appetite in a superior way, corroborate the ventricle, impede that the fumes from the bowels

rise to the head, are suitable to the other infections and can be recommended even to very thin patients”. Costoro also adds Colombo, “they will experience an almost devine benefit”. The visits made by various scientists continued in the following centuries, with Crantz and Borsieri, then the “archiater” of Ferdinand Archduke of Austria and down to Giovanni Bizio at the end of the 800s. The presence of guests for treatments verified from 1671 are at the beginning modest, then they increase as the testified by the 390 people in the few hotels in 1857. Until the first decade of the 900s the water was bottled and commercialised in the typical green bottles and were transported to the pharmacies of the Lombard empire. A bottle was discovered in Moscow.
